Arkansas Historic Wine Museum
Located in Paris in the Logan County of Arkansas, the Arkansas Historic Wine Museum is the only US museum dedicated solely to preserving the wine heritage of a state. Incorporated formally in 1994, the museum has been a recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the famous “Bootstrap Award” from the Park & Tourism Department of Arkansas. The museum artifacts range from the earliest to the present Arkansas wine industry. The exhibits include wine bottles with colorful & interesting labels collected from across the state over the years. Also included is a collection of crushers & presses that were used in the wine industry. The key attractions of the museum however are the 2,000 gallon wine tank from Henry J. Sax Winery & the 1,800 gallon cask from Cowie Wine Cellars. The exhibits are narrative of the wine making procedure. One of the star highlights of the Arkansas Historic Wine Museum is the beautiful “Gallery of Barrels” featuring barrel heads with Bette Kay Cowie’s wine-themed oil paintings. Though the museum is visited by countless tourists all year round, the best day to visit is the first Saturday in May when the Arkansas Wine Heritage Day Program is hosted by the museum. Entry to this much awaited program is free & includes wine tastings & tours. Also presented on this day is the Founder’s Award for people displaying exceptional advancement on the achievements of Arkansas wine.
