The Voyageurs National Park, established in 1975 is placed near the town of International Falls in northern Minnesota. The water-based park is renowned for its excellent water resources and people explore the park on houseboat, motorboat, canoe, and kayak. The highlight of the park is its Kabetogama Peninsulas which lies entirely inside the park and is accessible only by boat.
The terrain of the park consists of islands and interconnected waterways that provides and excellent opportunity for visitors to undertake a boat-ride and explore its lakes, islands and shorelines. During the winters the whole area is covered with snow and is accessible only by snowmobile, ski or snowshoe. With an area of around 218,000 acres the park hosts around 235,000 visitors per year.
There are lots of recreational activities to indulge in at the park like the naturalist-guided activities, walking trails, programs and scenic boat tours. Camping is also allowed inside the park but only after permission which can be easily obtained at visitor center. Voyageurs National Park also houses a wide variety of wildlife from black beer to moose to loons to seagulls and more. Bring your camera and binoculars as there are an abundant bird watching opportunities especially during the spring and autumn season.
