Named after the Catholic Saint Anthony of Padua, St. Anthony Falls is a popular tourist attraction near Mississippi river, holding a great historic significance. It is the birthplace of the former city of St. Anthony and to Minneapolis.
Saint Anthony Falls is located northeast of downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. Initially, it was the only natural major waterfall on the Upper Mississippi River. At present time, the falls is defined by the Lower Saint Anthony Falls which refers to a downstream lock of what is now officially referred to as Upper Saint Anthony Falls. Due to the historic importance of falls, the area around the falls is designated as the St. Anthony Falls Historic District.
