The National Railroad Museum in Green Bay is located in Ashwaubenon; a suburb of Green Bay, Wisconsin is one of the oldest museums dedicated to railroad history. Founded in 1956 by community volunteers in Green Bay, this indoor/outdoor museum offers an in-depth look into America’s railroad past. This museum holds one of largest historical railroad collections including well preserved rolling stock, photos, archives, and a library.
The National Railroad Museum is home to one of the United States' most historic railroad collections including an Aerotrain, Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4017 (the world's largest steam locomotive type), and the British Railways A4 Class No. 60008 Dwight D Eisenhower (ex-London & North Eastern Railway No. 4496 Golden Shuttle) and train used by the Supreme Allied Commander and his staff in the United Kingdom during World War II.
The Green Bay, National Railroad Museum offers a guided group tour for the visitors and tourist, this tour allows exploring an in-depth interpretation of the Museum’s highlights. There is also an 80 foot high wooden observation tower with views of the museum, Fox River, and the Green Bay Packer’s Lambeau Field. The museum hosts an annual Day Out with Thomas event, where Thomas the Tank Engine pulls young friends past the exhibited rolling stock.
