The Ozark National Forest is located in the northeastern region of the US state of Arkansas. Covering a land area of 1,200,000 acres, the forest comprises of Blanchard Springs Caverns, 12 developed campgrounds & Mount Magazine, which is the tallest mountain in Arkansas.
The National Forest was created way back in the year 1908. Today, the forest houses more than 500 varying species of woody plants & trees with hardwoods like hickory & oak predominantly seen. In addition, the forest is home to 5 designated wilderness areas & numerous wildlife management areas.
A scenic collection of ancient plateaus & gentle slopes, the Ozark National forest offers a range of recreational options like hiking & trekking. The well maintained Ozark Highlands Trail is the longest hiking trail of the Ozark Forest. This 165 mile long trail extends from Buffalo National River towards west to the Lake Fort Smith State Park. Other popularly used forest trails include Alum Cove Natural Bridge Trail, Pedestal Rock Trail & a wheelchair –accessible trail.
In addition to the endless hiking trails in the Ozark National Forest, there are also trails designated for recreations like canoeing, horseback riding, all terrain vehicles, mountain biking, etc. The 80 mile long Sylamore Trail is the longest horse trail in the forest.

The Blanchard Springs campground serves as the perfect base camp for exploring the forest attractions. Other popular campsites include Long Pool campground & Lake Wedington campground.
