Museum of Appalachia

Museum of Appalachia

Established in the 1960, the Museum of Appalachia is a living history museum that covers every important aspect of Appalachian culture, dating back to early 20th-century period. This is believed to be one of the most pleasant heritage villages in the United States.

There is John Rice Irwin, the founder of the building behind the great historic importance of the museum. He is the one, who followed the basic philosophy of preserving not only structures and artifacts relevant to the region's history, but also preserving each item's individual history.

This open air museum houses thousands of authentic relics and a huge collection of more than 30 historic buildings that have been rescued from neglect and decay. Besides, it also maintains one the nation's largest folk art collections and hosts traditional Appalachian music performances and annual demonstrations by hundreds of regional craftsmen.
The exhibits in the museum don’t limit here, you can find many more interesting items and attractions here. So, plan your vacation to this historic village and experience something beyond your thoughts.
