The capital city of the US state of Illinois, the city of Springfield is dotted with numerous interesting attractions. Most of these attractions however are centered around U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, whose political career is supposed to have started from this city.
One of the best attractions that documents the life & political success of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th US President, is the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum. Located in Springfield city, the museum is amongst the most visited attractions of Illinois.
The museum exhibits are centered around Lincoln & include artifacts, memorabilia, life-size dioramas of key events in his life, the Ford’s Theater presidential box, areas of White House, etc. Also on display are personal belongings of Lincoln like his shaving mirror & glasses, Mary Todd Lincoln’s wedding dress, chinaware, etc.
Though the original artifacts in the museum are moved from time to time, one of the permanent exhibits remains to be Campaign of 1860, featuring the late anchor Tim Russert. The key attractions of the Lincoln museum however are the two special effects theater shows – The Ghosts of the Library & Lincoln’s Eyes.
The Lincoln Presidential Library with its well maintained collection of books, manuscripts & artifacts is the best place to visit for a peek into Lincoln’s life.
