The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is one of the most popular family getaways of Iowa, located in Dubuque. This is a property of the Dubuque County Historical Society and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. This building houses two different centers: The Mississippi River Center and the National River Center , featuring amazing marine life that is the representative of that found in the Mississippi River and other major attractions like - The Large Format 3D/4D Immersion Theater.
There are some permanent exhibits and some temporary exhibits in the museum.
Permanent exhibits: Fred W. Woodward Riverboat Museum, National Rivers Hall of Fame, Steamboat William M. Black (a National Historic Landmark), The Pfohl Boatyard, William Woodward Discovery Center and Woodward Wetlands.
Temporary exhibits: The Painting the Mississippi.
Apart from these, the museum also houses an outdoor park, featuring larger artifacts such as boats and a café.
