The US state of Illinois besides being home to a large number of state & recreational parks is also home to several wildlife attractions like zoos & aquariums. One of the best known wildlife attractions of Illinois is the Lincoln Park Zoo located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, off Lake Shore Drive.
Founded way back in 1868, the Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the oldest zoos of the country & is home to an amazingly wide variety of animals. The total number of animals housed in the park is estimated to be 1,250 & includes species like monkeys, reptiles, penguins, polar bears, etc. Another major attraction of the zoo besides these wild animals is the burr oak tree dating back to 1830.
The Lincoln Park Zoo is extremely popular with children because of the two sections - Pritzker Family Children's Zoo & Farm-in-the-Zoo, kept aside exclusively for the kids. While the Pritzker Family Children’s Zoo houses an indoor play area for children, the Farm-in-the-Zoo houses farm animals like pigs, cows, etc, whom children can pet & feed. Another must visit section of the Lincoln Park is the Regenstein Center for African Apes, which is home to Keo renowned as the oldest male chimpanzee.
The Lincoln Park Zoo with its huge wildlife variety not only serves to educate visitors but also helps scientists in protecting & conserving the wildlife across the world.
Chicago city is home to three other zoos besides the Lincoln Park Zoo & thus the place receives endless tourists all year round. Catering these tourists are the numerous city hotels like the Days Inn Chicago, The Sutton Place Hotel & others.
