The Kankakee River State Park is one such famous recreation park located in the US state of Illinois. Stretched across an area of 4000 acres, the state park attracts endless campers, anglers, hunters & hikers all year round.
Summertime witnesses the maximum tourist in flow when temperatures go down at night, making it the perfect season for camping. Moreover, the camping facilities offered at the various campgrounds located inside the park like Potawatomi Campground, Equestrian Campground or the Chippewa Campground, make it extremely easy to rent a cabin or find a good picnic table.
The Kankakee State Park is especially popular with hikers since it offers plenty of trails that take you through the different ecosystems of the park. While some trails run along Rock Creek, others take you deep into the forest or along the Kankakee River. These trails are considered best for mushroom hunting.
Of the trails running along both side of the Kankakee River, the ones on north side are for biking, hiking & cross-country skiing, while those on south are for snowmobile & horseback riding. The best trail for enjoying a ride atop a horse is the 12 mile long Equestrian trail.
