The Great Lakes Aquarium is housed in a three story building on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. The aquarium has got the distinction of being the only freshwater aquarium in America, featuring a collection of about 70 species of fish and around 30 species of animals including birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles.
The aquarium boasts of over 60,000 sq. ft. facility featuring actual habitat in the Lake Superior basin. A visit to the aquarium is never short of surprises and visitors get an opportunity to have a fascinating experience of aquatic life that have been thriving for ages below the water’s surface. The interactive exhibits at the aquarium act as a learning curve for both kids and adults and they get acquainted with the geographical and cultural history of the region.
The highlight of the aquarium is the 85,000 gallon Isle Royale located in the center of the building, extending till the second floor and showcasing fish like trout and lake sturgeon. There are numerous attractions showcased in the permanent fixtures of the aquarium from fast-moving exhibits to slow-moving river habitat to pictured rocks to Amazing Amazon and much more. The aquarium also features a wide variety of interactive electronic exhibits as well as local history center, science center and cultural exhibits.
