The beautiful city of Olney is located in the Richland County of Illinois. Of all other things, Olney city is renowned especially for its huge population of white squirrels & is thus rightly named as “Home of the White Squirrels”.
The best place to get a closer look at these bushy-tailed, pink eyed albinos is the Olney City Park. Stretched across an area of 55 acres just across from Olney Central College, the park is the only place housing such an amazing number of white squirrels. A granite slab placed in the park in 2002 marks the centennial of the event that led to this huge squirrel population.
The Olney City Park besides being home to white squirrels, also offers a wide variety of recreational options & about 5 covered & open picnic spots. Alternately, you may test your sports skills at one of the six lighted tennis courts or the baseball & volleyball courts that the Olney Park houses.
While a great attraction for those looking out for Olney’s famed white squirrels, the Olney City Park also serves host to numerous city events like the Richland County Fair & 100,000 light Christmas Light Display extending from Thanksgiving up to the New Year’s Day.
Accommodation is not a problem when in the city of Olney with hotels available for leisure as well as business travelers. While luxury hotels like Super 8 Olney are perfect for those who can spend, the B&B’s like Squirrel Cage Bed & Breakfast are best suited for budget travelers.
