The Aviation Museum of Kentucky is a dynamic entity which includes not only older restored aircraft and memorabilia, but also air-worthy, flyable aircraft for the public to enjoy. Located at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport, the museum's 12,000 sq ft display area provides an interesting tour through the history of aviation, with a focus on aviation in Kentucky.
The museum opened its doors to public in 1995, and is a home to the Kentucky Aviation Hall of Fame. The display area of the museum features military uniforms, model airplanes, helicopters, engines and interpretive displays about the history of aviation.
One can view the most popular variety of aircraft including a Bell 206B observer helicopter, an A-4F Skyhawk II used by the Navy's Blue Angels and a 1908 Quadraplane replica, the first powered aircraft to fly over Kentucky.
The museum also offers guided and self-guided tours, group tours, rental space for special events and Aviation Camp for students ages 10–15. Kids have the opportunity to sit in and take the controls of some of the museum's planes and flight simulators. Also on the museum site there is a fully equipped shop for aviation restoration projects and a library/archive.
